                                  The Oppressors

                            A motley couple
                            half-grown midgets
                            his hair is oily, backwards
                            jean-fade hips are paper thin
                            and she
                            with eyebrows close
                            her  inch-high forehead
                            hidden under dirt-straight curls
                            holds in her arms
                            a bundled blanket
                            bland against the sidewalk wind
                            they shuffle with their burden
                            god knows where
                            their eyes down dim
                            they do not see
                            the swaying buildings
                            crashing windows
young men bloating in the township sand
                            they do not see
                            their bleeding land
                            they do not see
                            their bleeding  burning cursed land
                            at least not he -

                            but she

                            but she....

                            feeling in the icy air
                            the angry heat
her bone white arms press strongly
                            against the peaceful, sleeping child.
