The Gardener*
In
a corner
of the garden
grows a tree -
a willow
sprouting quietly
thin green leaves which yellow
'till they fold
and finely float
to earth
to brown then dry
wrinkled
blow and fly
for fresh ones soon
to settle softly before they die
through ash-grey
days
which leave the Gardener staring on
in
mute dismay
